Christian Funeral

One of the most helpful ways of dealing with death is our Christian faith. It enables us to face death with courage and hope. It is also consoling for us to gather as a community to share our sadness and thanksgiving for a life that is no longer physically among us.

The Rite of Christian funerals connects the celebration of a person’s life with the joy of Christ’s promise of life beyond death. When we gather for a funeral service or requiem Mass the tone will be one of joy and thanksgiving that the deceased person now participates in the eternal life won for us by Christ’s resurrection.

Funeral ceremonies in the Southport are usually celebrated in one of our three parish Churches (Mary Immaculate, Ashmore & St. Joseph the Worker, Labrador have convenient parking for guests) or at a funeral home or graveside. The location and type of service are best discussed with the funeral celebrant.

If you are arranging the funeral of a loved one, the Funeral Director of your choice will contact the Parish Office and book the Church and a Priest. The priest will then contact you at the earliest possible time to work out the details of the funeral service or Requiem Mass.

Should you require a funeral booklet to be printed we would be happy to do this for you. We require at least one day’s notice to do this. There is no set charge for this service, however, a small donation would be appreciated.
